About The Project

In June 2022, Buffalo View Motel embarked on a mission to transform a former motel, which had been vacant for 2-3 years, into a beacon of hope. The property was initially closed due to structural issues, but thanks to a detailed report from our structural engineer, many of these repairs have already been addressed. However, the sidewalks still need replacement due to underlying rusted metal.

Our Journey

Rezoning Efforts: Buffalo View Motel sought to rezone the property to apartments to better serve the community, but the town of Unicoi denied our request. After a legal battle, we secured the right to reopen it as a motel.

Clean and Safe: The property had a troubled past with drug use, but it has been professionally cleaned and certified meth-free, ensuring a safe environment for future residents.

Electrical Inspection: Although the electricity has been disconnected, an inspector has confirmed that the property passed inspection and only requires necessary repairs to be fully operational.

What We Need

To realize our vision of providing temporary housing for victims of Hurricane Helene, Buffalo View Motel needs your support with the following:

  • Kitchenettes: Each room originally had a kitchenette. We need 69 small refrigerators, microwaves, sinks, and countertops to restore these facilities.
  • Bathroom Fixtures: Many bathroom vanities are missing, and several toilets are broken and need replacement.
  • Heating Units: We require 69 220v PTAC units to ensure each room is warm and comfortable.

How You Can Help

Buffalo View Motel is calling on compassionate individuals and organizations to volunteer and assist with the remaining repairs and installations. Your support will help us provide a safe and comfortable temporary home for those affected by Hurricane Helene. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need.
